Teamlead Firmware

Job description

You as a Team Lead Firmware…

know that great firmware isn't just about writing great code. It's also about having the right people working together. You're technically strong, but you get just as much energy from supporting colleagues, improving processes, and building a team that keeps getting better.

At Connected Load Carrier (CLC), we're looking for a Team Lead Firmware who combines the best of both worlds: leadership and embedded firmware development.

You're not a traditional manager who spends their days assigning tasks and checking progress. Instead, you create an environment where developers can work independently, take ownership, and continue to grow. You provide direction, remove obstacles, and help the team achieve results together. At the same time, you stay technically involved. Because no matter how much you enjoy supporting people, you still appreciate the opportunity to dive into the code yourself.

In this role, you'll spend approximately 60–70% of your time on leadership and team development, and 30–40% on hands-on firmware development. You'll join our development team in 's-Hertogenbosch, where we work on the embedded technology behind our IoT solutions. You'll lead a team of Embedded Firmware Developers and work closely with the Technical Firmware Lead and Technical Product Owner IoT.

Together, you'll ensure our technology continues to become smarter, more reliable, scalable, and ready for the future.

What will you be doing?

As Team Lead Firmware, you're responsible for the performance, development, and results of the firmware team. You create clarity, encourage collaboration, and help your colleagues bring out the best in themselves.

That doesn't mean you're the one making every technical decision. The Technical Firmware Lead is responsible for technical architecture and direction, while the Technical Product Owner IoT determines what we develop and which priorities come first.

Your responsibility is to make sure the team can successfully deliver, together.

More specifically, you'll:

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of Embedded Firmware Developers in their personal and professional development;

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations, while paying attention to your colleagues' well-being and motivation;

  • Take responsibility for day-to-day team leadership, team dynamics, and people-related matters;

  • Create a working environment where trust, ownership, open communication, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do;

  • Facilitate agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, ensuring the team works together effectively;

  • Identify and remove obstacles so developers can focus on what they do best;

  • Take ownership of the execution and successful delivery of epics, while maintaining the team's autonomy;

  • Actively contribute to embedded firmware development, code reviews, debugging, and solving technical challenges;

  • Help improve CI/CD, test automation, code quality, and the reduction of technical debt;

  • Work closely with the Technical Firmware Lead, Technical Product Owner IoT, and colleagues from Hardware, QA, and Product Management;

  • Encourage knowledge sharing and continuously look for ways to work smarter, more efficiently, and with higher quality;

  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new colleagues.

You'll have the opportunity to further develop the team and improve the way we work together. Not by making every decision yourself, but by involving people, giving them ownership, and moving forward together.

Job requirements

Who are you?

You're an experienced embedded firmware developer who has discovered that helping others grow can be just as rewarding as solving complex technical challenges.

You understand what developers need to perform at their best. You know when to offer support, when to step in, and when it's better to simply give people the space to do their jobs.

You don't need to be the smartest person in the room. In fact, you genuinely enjoy it when colleagues come up with solutions you hadn't thought of yourself.

You also bring:

  • At least 7 years of experience as an Embedded Firmware Developer;

  • Proven experience leading, coaching, or coordinating a development team;

  • Strong expertise in Embedded C and experience with Embedded C++, including memory and performance optimization;

  • Experience with agile methodologies and facilitating and improving sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives;

  • Knowledge of code reviews, CI/CD, test automation, debugging, and systematically improving code quality;

  • Experience with firmware-hardware integration and collaborating within multidisciplinary development teams;

  • The ability to provide clear feedback, have difficult conversations, and create a safe and positive working environment;

  • An independent, structured, and solution-oriented approach, with the ability to maintain an overview under pressure;

  • Excellent command of English. Speaking Dutch is a nice bonus.

But perhaps even more importantly?

You're genuinely interested in people. You listen, ask questions, and aren't afraid to make decisions when needed. You take responsibility without trying to control everything, and you understand that great leadership isn't about control, but about trust and development.

You're technically strong enough to contribute, but also confident enough to give others the freedom to do things their own way.

About Connected Load Carrier (CLC)

At Connected Load Carrier (CLC), we're making the world of logistics smarter by digitally connecting physical load carriers.

Through our innovative IoT solutions, we help businesses around the world gain visibility into their assets, optimize logistics processes, and make smarter decisions across their supply chains.

We do this by combining hardware, firmware, connectivity, and intelligent software. Technology that doesn't just work on paper, but makes a real difference in practice.

We're an ambitious and fast-growing scale-up where innovation, collaboration, and ownership are at the heart of everything we do. Our organization is constantly evolving, which means not everything is always completely figured out. You need to be comfortable with that. Better yet, we're looking for people who actually enjoy helping shape how we can do things better tomorrow.

At CLC, we believe in The Connected Way to Work. We value short communication lines, open communication, taking responsibility, and, above all, achieving results together.

We work hard, but we believe it's just as important to enjoy what we do and the people we do it with.

What do we offer you?

At CLC, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact. Not just on the technology we develop, but also on the people behind it.

You'll join an organization where expertise is valued, good ideas are taken seriously, and you're given the freedom to shape your role.

And of course, that comes with an attractive employment package:

  • Working in an ambitious scale-up: short communication lines, plenty of ownership, and the opportunity to help shape our growing organization;

  • The best of both worlds: a role where you can develop and lead a team while staying actively involved in technology;

  • Competitive employment conditions, reflecting your experience, responsibilities, and the stage we're at as a scale-up;

  • An annual performance bonus of up to 10% of your gross annual salary, depending on the applicable bonus scheme;

  • Flexible working hours and hybrid working: we offer flexibility, but we also enjoy seeing you regularly at our office. We won't force you to embrace Brabant's famous gezelligheid, but we'll definitely encourage it;

  • Flexible holidays: as long as we deliver what we need to deliver together, we believe it's important that you have enough time to recharge;

  • Room for personal and professional development: both technically and in your growth as a leader;

  • Daily team lunches: a chance to catch up with colleagues, and luckily, the conversation doesn't always have to be about work;

  • Fun team activities and Friday drinks: because while we work hard, we also know how to have a good time;

  • The opportunity to participate in our bicycle plan;

  • Travel allowance of €0.25 per kilometre or an NS Business Card for commuting by public transport.
